How do I remove Office 2007 beta?
Hi,
Has anyone any bright ideas? I've been running the Office 2007 beta, which has now expired. I want to install the official version, but I can't until I've uninstalled the beta. That's where the problem starts. First, I tried add/remove programs. That starts, then I get a message to say the program was not removed. I then looked for an uninstall file but there isn't one. I rang my local MS office only to be told that they don't give support for the beta. I then tried MS support and got this document . I tried following the instructions, but some of them gave error messages such as "C:\documents could not be found," others asked me to delete files, but when I tried I was denied access and others worked (I think). The net result was that my machine was so totally screwed up I had to do a complete restore. Thank God for XXClone and a daily backup. My machine is now OK again, but I'm back to having a complete, but unuseable, beta version of Office. The only email contact I can have with MS requires a payment of $69. Regards, Pilot. P.S. I'm not expecting miracles.

Re: How do I remove Office 2007 beta?
Hey JTP,
My wife was another that got caught with the dreaded office 07 trail nightmare, altho my trial came off just as easy as dai's, I had a hell of a time getting it off my wifes computer, I think from memory it was a manual removal and strip out of registry, it was not for the faint hearted

As I said earlier, I've already tried the manual remove and followed the instructions exactly and it just screwed my machine up. I might just try deleting all the Office files then letting Registry Mechanic sort out the Registry. If that fails, I've still got my XXClone backup, so I've nothing to lose.

Re: How do I remove Office 2007 beta?
Thanks Dai. I've already followed the 928218 article. That's the one that screwed my system up. I'll give the others a go.
Regards, John.

Re: How do I remove Office 2007 beta?
Wow!! That was a rollercoaster of a ride. You're not wrong blackduck, this is not for the fainthearted. No way would I try and explain this to a newbie. Let me bring you up to date. As I said, Dai, the kb 928218 instructions didn't work, so I followed your link to Tech Recipes. There it was suggested using the MS Installer Cleanup Utility. When I got there it said "DO NOT USE THIS TO REMOVE OFFICE 2007" Hmmm!! I have my XXClone backup so I've got nothing to lose. I ran the Cleanup utility which proceded to lock up my machine. After several reboots I got back in and the Office files were still there, so I marked the Office folder with MoveonBoot and rebooted. When I got back in I ran Registry Mechanic and it found nearly a thousand errors. I let it correct them and lo, and behold, Office beta has gone. I've now installed the full version and everything seems to be OK.
DO NOT ask me to write an article on how to do this.
