HELPPPPPP!!! I am going Outlook crazy

Greetings All,
Some times before I even receive a new email in my in box, my "new email desktop alert" sounds and displays said email. Then when the email does come in to the inbox it sounds off and displays for a second time.
Other times it rings and displays the new incoming email twice after the email has arrived. I haved checked the setting and all seems normal. Why is my alert double dinging and double displaying every new email? It is driving me nutz

Please tell us what version of Outlook and type of email.
