MS Office 2007 versions and licensing options
The following is the official information made available from Microsoft to their partners:
Office 2007 versions First, you see at the table beneath, the various available versions for Office 2007 packages (which programs comprise each one of them), sold in OEM and FPP versions. OEM stands for "Original Equipment Manufacturer" and it can only come pre-installed with a new computer. The OEM license is tied to the computer system with which it has been sold and cannot be transferred to another computer. Moreover, the OEM license cannot be the Upgrade version - it is always the Full version. FPP stands for "Full Packaged Product" and can be bought as a stand-alone piece of software. The FPP license can be either the Full or the Upgrade version. ![]() Second, you see at the table beneath, the various available versions for Office 2007 packages (which programs comprise each one of them), sold in Volume Licensing versions. ![]() Office 2007 licensing comparison Here you see how the chosen licensing path affects some key characteristics: ![]() Please pay attention to the fact that with Office 2007, like it has always been with the MS Office suite, buying the FPP (Retail) version entitles you to two licenses of the program ( You don't need to buy a second copy of MS Office for your laptop). Same applies to the Volume Licensing version, as well. Office 2007 version comparison Three of the available Office 2007 packages, namely Office Ultimate 2007 (available as FPP only), and Office Professional Plus 2007 and Office Enterprise 2007 (available in VL only), provide additional collaboration features in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. These unique features support the following scenarios:

Re: MS Office 2007 versions and licensing options
You need to ask your PC manufacturer to provide you with proper OEM Office 2007 installation media, before you move on with erasing the contents of your drive. There might be a nominal charge for this disk.
Or, depending on the manufacturer, there may be a hidden partition in your HDD where lies a Recovery Image which should include the OEM Office, as well. If this is the case, then you can create optical media out of this Recovery Partition, by following the manufacturer's procedure. |

Re: Office 2007 news & tools
New Retail Consumer Support Options To Launch for with 2007 Microsoft Office system:
Up until Office 2003 (included), consumers who bought and installed Office retail products, were entitled to call Microsoft at no charge for technical help with their product installation and for two additional support inquiries. Since Jan 30th, 2007 this has changed for the 2007 Office Suite. Now customers can contact Microsoft as often as they need for their Office 2007 issues, but this is at no charge only within a 90-day timeframe. While for Vista this 90-day period starts counting from the moment of product activation, for Office 2007 Microsoft states that: "For the 2007 Microsoft Office system, the 90 days will be based upon the first time that the customer contacts Microsoft support." Aforementioned policy is for FPP (Full-Packaged, i.e. "Retail") Products only. Customers who bought a preinstalled Microsoft product from a computer manufacturer (i.e. the OEM Office 2007 version), will receive technical support from that manufacturer. |

Medialess Office 2007
The only way for OEMs to sell the 2007 Office Suites bundled with their computers is to provide their customers with a Medialess License Kit (MLK).
Microsoft is introducing Medialess License Kits (MLK) for selling 2007 Microsoft Office OEM licenses in the system builder channel. Medialess License Kits contain suite specific product keys which enable end customers to "unlock" either Microsoft Office Basic 2007, Small Business 2007, or Professional 2007. These kits also contain licensing information for the end user. The MLK does not contain any backup media. Although the new Medialess License Kits do not contain media, customers who purchase 2007 Microsoft Office system software with a new PC are eligible to receive backup media for up to 90 days after purchase. Instructions on how to order backup media is printed on the Medialess License Kit - or you can check out Microsoft Office system backup discs for medialess license kits, where you can also see the pricing for your country/area and order online. In addition, customers can create their own backup media if they have Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, or Windows Vista Ultimate. In this case, see How to Create a Backup Disc. Additional information can be found at the Microsoft Office Ready Computer FAQ/Burn Page. |
