Retreive e-mail file?

Hello all, I am opening an e-mail with a spread sheet attached and making some changes and then instead of hitting "save as" and directing it to a folder, I hit "save". OK I know it goes to C:/Documents and Settings/(name)/Local Settings/Temporay Internet Files/Content.IE5/PMMQ6V30.
BUT I CANNOT GET TO THE Temporay Internet file to retreive the attchment I worked on. I can open a different e-mail attachemnet and hit "save as" and see the previous file I need, but cannot track it down. I have done a search for the Temporay internet files/Content.IE5/PMMQ6V30 folder(s) but no luck. Any ideas. HELP!!

Hi Hipster,
Have you tried typing the full path into the address bar of a folder and hitting go? That should take you right into the folder you want.

Address bar of a folder? I open a folder and see no address bar. The attached file is an example of what I am trying to find on my computer after I save it to th efunky folder name.

Hi Hipster,
Open any folder, My Documents would do, and click on View>Toolbars>and click Address Bar and it should show right below the Button Toolbar. An alternate way to get to the folder is to click on Folders on the Button Toolbar. That will open an explorer tree on the left. Follow the tree to the folder you want and click on it in the tree to open it. Then click the Folder Button to reveal the Folder Tasks and move your file out.

Take look at what I have on the attached document. Under "default user" the "temporay internet files" folder shows up with the "Contnt.IE5" folder visible. Nothing in folder except a "index" file. Under user "Jeff Hiepler" there is no Temporary Internet folder. Trail ends. Ideas?

Hipster,
I had this same problem trying to save favicons from my temp Internet files.
Windows is hiding the files because it considers it a security risk. I don't know of a way around it using the explorer tree. I do know that if you show the address bar on the folder as I said before, you can go directly into the numbered folder you want. That assumes you haven't emptied the temporary internet files.

I was just looking at the doc you attached and it looks like the address bar is on the far right of the button bar. Unlock the toolbar and drag it over where you can use it. I'm attaching a screen shot to show you the address bar on a folder.

Thanks for the tip on unlocking the toolbar. Makes sense to look a little harder before asking for help on that simple move. I still cannot see the Temporary Internet file folder. The local settings folder is not a bright yellow like the others, it is opaque looking. Does that mean there is more files being hidden? How do you post a thumbnail like your post? I do things the hard way first. School of hard knocks you know! Thanks gain for rthe feed back.

Open My Computer, at the top click Tools, click Folder Options, choose the View tab, in the Advanced settings box click Show hidden files and folders, scroll down and uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended). Click OK and all hidden files will show.

Hi Hipster,
For posting a thumbnail, do a screenshot (pressing Alt+Print Screen will copy the active window) and paste it into Paint(Start>Programs>Accessories>Paint>Edit>Paste). Click File>Save as. Type a file name and for Save as type, select JPEG from the drop down list( It's a smaller file size than the default Bitmap and uploads faster.) Click save. It will save by default to My Pictures or you can use the left side of the save as window to browse to a different location. That's it. It's ready to attach to a post or E-mail.
For your original problem, now that you have the address bar showing,type in the full path ( C:/Documents and Settings/(name)/Local Settings/Temporay Internet Files/Content.IE5/PMMQ6V30 ) and hit go. If you get a box asking if you're sure just say yes and you should be in the folder. Once past the block you should be able to use the explorer tree to access all the other folders in the Content.IE5 folder. See my attachment.
The opaque color just means it is normally a hidden folder that you now have showing. Hope that works for you.

Hey Throoper, getting there but not quite!
Checked and unchecked appropriate boxes you indicated (again makes sense) but I still am not getting to the Content.IE5 folder. I did the thumbnail thing I hope. What part of the world do you hail from?

Hi Hipster,
Good screenshot. Much better than a Word doc. I see you found the Temp Internet Files under your name but got stuck there. First thing is get to the point you were at in the screenshot and uncheck Hidden on the properties box.Hit Apply and select apply to all sub-folders and files and hit OK and then close the properties box.
Next thing is I don't see the address bar on the folder and you need to get it showing for this to work ( View>Toolbars>check address bar). Type in the path through Content.IE5 so it looks like the screenshot I attached before, hit go and the 29 folders should show in the right hand pane and you can access them. If that doesn't do it try the full path with the numbered folder. Let me know how you make out. Also, do you happen to have Norton Systemworks? If yes, you might be able to rescue your file from there.

He also needs to recover files.

Hello Throoper.
I used the My Computer/c:/properties disk cleanup utility and the documents are still there that I "planted" as a find-it through all this. Then I used the Internet properties/cleanup/delete cookies/temporay files and then it cleaned everything!
Why does'nt Windows put those docs in a different location to make retreival easier for people who do not not "save as" first?

Oh well done venting.
