I have recently purchased Microsoft office used off a friend when I bought the whole system, but the product is registered in his name. How do I re-register the product in my name??

update...

Actually, I think maybe the proper term is "licensing"? It is what appears when you start up the program..

thanks.

You will have to contact Microsoft for this.

I know when I have installed it and run into registration problems it asked me do you want to register on-line or by phone. If you choose by phone, the # should be displayed. Last time I did this it was an 800 # and no charge.
Might be different with the Mac Office.

Solution..

I just gave them a call, and she said that I would need to reinstall the software to reset the licensing. Not to difficult, weighing the benefits...

thanks for your help!

First of all, I understand that you want to change the personal details that appear when an MS Office program opens, that say: "Registered to ..." So, if this is the piece of information you wish to change, then it is irrelevant to licensing - for licensing is an indispensable part of purchasing any software program, while registration is optional. And for some point on, MS products require activation, which is linked only to licensing. I quote from Microsoft Office Activation/Registration Privacy Statement:
Quote:
Registration is not the same as activation. While activation is required in order for your software to work correctly, registration is optional and is completely separate from activation. When you register your software, Microsoft can send you customized information and offers regarding future products, as well as provide you with improved product support and product update information.
The only way I can think of for changing that, is for you to uninstall and then re-install MS Office. At the time of re-installation, you will be asked to enter your personal data again. Since the computer is the same, no re-activation will be required.

EDIT: Oops, it obviously took me long enough to type, for you to act in the meantime...
But realizing I share the same opinion with Microsoft, makes me a bit scared...

thank you!

Though it took a while to type, it reinforced the fact. Thank you for your time!
