Half Spacing Between Characters in Word 2003

Hi,

In Persian (Farsi), in addition to spacing between characters, there is also "Half Spacing" between characters by pressing "Ctrl+Shift+2" keys when required.

For example:

In "Microsoft Word 2003 Professional Edition" however, half spaces change to vertical lines except in "Reading View". Here is an example:

This problem occurs only for me. In other computers with Word 2003 installed that I tested, there aren't vertical lines, and half spacing works correctly. When files typeset correctly are sent to me the same problem occurs on my computer.

How can I get rid of these vertical lines ?

Thank you,

Persian.

1. Are both your Windows and your Office fully patched with all the last updates?

2. Are you using a localized (Persian) version of Windows and/or Office, or do you have English Office with Proofing Tools installed?

3. Explore the \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\1065 folder and post back its contents.

4. Locate USP10.DLL in C:\WINDOWS\system32 and in \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office11. Right-click, select Properties and look at the Version tab. Are both USP10.DLL files the same version?

First of all tnx for your helping.

1. No

2. All the Windows and Office localizations were these :

A. Installing right to left langauge support for English verison Windows :

B. Installing official Office Language Interface Pack for Farsi (Persian):

http://www.microsoft.com/middleeast/...rsi/wPaper.asp

* I have already uninstalled this LIP, but I still have the problem.

3. I have these folders in \Office11 directory:

By the way here is the 1033 contents:

http://suprfile.com/src/1/384sayr/1033.JPG

4. USP10.DLL version in WINDOWS\system32 is: 1.409.2600.1106
And in \Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office11 is: 1.471.4030.0

So you can see they aren't same version.

1. From what I see, it seems you haven't applied WinXP SP2. Is there a specific reason for this? Do you plan updating? I strongly recommend that you fully patch both Windows and Office, as this settles many inconsistencies.

2. Please read How to enable right-to-left language support for Word 2003 and Word 2002 on computers that are running on Windows Server 2003, on Windows XP, or on Windows 2000. Your case is an English Office with Proofing Tools installed over, only instead of the retail version of Proofing Tools, you install the Office Language Interface Pack for Farsi (Persian). This is the LIP you've uninstalled, but you need it - so you'll have to re-install it after having patched your Windows and Office.

3. The 1065 sub-folder is the one for the Farsi language. Check again if it is contained in the Office11 folder, after having re-installed the Farsi LIP.

4. Check again the USP10.DLL versions, after having patched your Windows and Office.

I am still using SP1 because SP2 is uncompatible with some program and games. By the way if the Windows and Office updating is necessary, I will do it definitely. And then I will re-install LIP and check again the USP10.DLL versions and finally post the results here.

Tnx.

You mentioned earlier that you know other computers where everything seems to operate right in Farsi; what about them? What are their versions of Windows and Office and their respective update status? If there is such a substantial difference in exhibited behavior, we can nail the culprit by identifying which is the difference in their detailed (WinXP & Office03) configuration.

I apologize for the long dely in response.

I think all the problems are made by two special characters in "Symbol" menu:
"No-Width Optional Break" and "No-Width Non Break". also termed "ZERO WIDTH JOINER" and "ZERO WIDTH NON-JOINER".

When system language is English, these two special characters work correctly. Please see this picture:

http://suprfile.com/src/1/3jj4yqb/Good Result.JPG

And when system language is Farsi, they don't work correctly. Please see this picture:

http://suprfile.com/src/1/3jj3j16/Bad Result.JPG

And another important point regarding fonts:

I have two types of Farsi fonts: "Fontname" and "B Fontname". For example: "Arshia" and "B Arshia".
All of "B Fontnames" work correctly with that two special characters even when system language is Farsi. And all of "Fontnames" work correctly with that two special characters only when system language is English.

Re-installing the fonts didn't solve the problem.
By the way, I only use "Tahoma" font for Farsi writing and If I can use one of that two special characters when font is Tahoma and system language is Farsi, my problems is solved.
