Saving emails Outlook Express to Outlook

Hi all, am trying to save my emails and folders on my existing PC with Outlook Express so I can put them onto my new PC on which I am planning to use Outlook as email system.

I have a key (ie removable temporary disk drive) to copy them onto and have successfully done so with my address book but I can't figure out how to do this with emails!

What I have tried (unsuccessfully!):-
File, Export, Messages, Profile name is Outlook, select All folders and OK. Where does this save them to so I can find them and copy onto removable disk?

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance!

Gilly, the fact that the profile is "Outlook" bothers me. Are you sure it's not "Outlook Express"? Anyway, this guy is an Outlook Express MVP for Microsoft. I can't imagine he doesn't have the instructions somewhere on his site, though I did not search for them:
http://www.insideoe.com/

Outlook Express isn't an Office app, and I don't use it myself, so I can't be very helpful. :(

Hi...

If the Microsoft Outlook profile was on the same PC as the Outlook Express profile, then it would be easy to do it the way you have done so far, but as Outlook is on a different machine that Outlook Express, it may be easier to do it as follows:

- Locate your folder/mail store folder for Outlook Express:
- Tools -> Options -> Maintenance -> Store Folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{Product ID Code}\Microsoft\Outlook Express)
- Copy all the files in that folder to your removable drive
- Load the removable drive into your new PC
- Paste the contents of the old store folder to your new PC's Outlook Express store folder (overwrite existing contents if asked)
- Start Outlook Express
- Verify that all your usual folders/mails are present
- Click File -> Export -> Messages etc etc (as you have done already on your old PC)
- Your mail will now be in Outlook (will obviously need Outlook installed on new PC by this point though)

Hope that helps :-)

I use Outlook express for newsgroups, so I am farmilliar. There is another way to transfer your messages. Follow the directions carefully. Note: you must be logged in as an administrator or as the user whose OE messages you want to copy. This is a slight alteration of nickster_uk's suggestion

1. Open OE (Outlook Express) and go to Tools > Options > Maintenance tab > Store Folder. A small window will pop up with an explorer adress in it.

2. Copy the entire adress, open My Computer, Paste it into the adress bar, and hit Enter.

3. You will be in a folder with a bunch of files that windows can't recognize. Copy all these files and Paste them on the removable drive you have.

4. Open OE on the new computer and create the account you had on your old OE as if you were going to send/recive messages on it.

5. Put the removable in the new computer. Repeat steps 1 & 2 to go to the folder where OE keeps its messages.

6. Once you are there, open up My computer and go into the removable drive that you just inserted. Copy all the files and Paste them in the other window that you just opened by following steps 1 & 2. If it asks you if youy want to replace files, say Yes.

7. Now you should have transfered all the messages from your old OE to your new one. Open it up to verify that all the messages are there.

8. That was the hard part. Now, open MS Outlook and go to File > Import and Export... (If it is your first time opening MS Outlook, the wizard will pop up right away asking if you want to import from OE, jump to step 11 if it does).

9. Select Import from another program or file (if its not already selected). Click Next >.

10. Select Outlook Express 4.x, 5.x, 6.x. Click Next >.

11. Follow the wizard as it guides you through importing and exporting. it should be easy from here.

Feel free to post or PM me if you have any questions.
