[SOLVED] IE automatically opening files not prompting to save
Hi all
Right then here's a little problem which I've just started experiencing lately. At work we run program with a HTML front end on a SQL database. When clicking a button, within IE, I should be prompted to either save a csv file or open a csv file. I need to save these files as clicking open on them opens them up in Excel which is no good for me as they are usually 65,000+ records in size. Now I get no option to save/open it just opens up in Excel automatically, losing any records past the magic 65,536 mark. To top it off I have a program called CSVed which is associated with all csv files. A normal double-click of a csv file within Windows would open it in this program anyway and not Excel?! Any ideas? I'm pretty sure you can correct this by opening up a folder (in windows, not an IE page; and any folder - doesn't matter where) and click Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types tab then find the CSV type in the list. Click Advanced, then make sure Confirm Open After Download is ticked. This should make sure you get the download confirmation box where you can choose to save it instead of it opening.

Yeah I have been down this route. As I have set csv files to open with a program called CSVed when you go to file types and click on csv the 'Advanced' button is actually 'Restore' instead. I restored it back to the default of Excel opening up csv's, then changed it back to CSVed and then I got the Advanced button back. Ticked that box like you suggested but still no prompt to save.

Ok guys I've been messing about with the open settings and now when I double click a csv file it doesn't open at all. It opens up the CSVed program and then freezes. If however I open up CSVed first then go the File - Open route it works just fine. Can anyone tell me within Tools -> Folder Options -> CSV type -> Advanced what values should be in the various fields for the 'Open' action?
