When I try to get updates for Win 98SE I get an error page saying that I need to change my security settings etc. I have done all that plus everything else recommended at the Microsoft KB. Any website I go to that needs Active X Controls fails. I discovered this when trying to download free McAfee AV from AOL. I have IE 6 SP-1. Any suggestions?

Open internet explorer, click on tools/internet options.
Click on the advanced tab and enable the active x controls in the list. If you are running a firewall, check the configuration settings.

First go to tools internet options/ security/ trusted zone
click the sites button Make sure the require secure login is not checked, choose add a site type *.microsoft.com hit enter type *.windowsupdate.com hit enter apply and on the trusted zone tab, lower the slider all the way to lowest. Go to general tab Go to temp internet files delete files/ delete all offline content click delete cookies click on settings/ view objects Right click on them and check properties Any marked damaged? Click delete If you see the one (you may actually have more than one) for http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...864.6938657407 select it and right click and choose remove. It will ask if you want to permanently remove it . Say yes. When you go to windows update it will prompt you to allow it to isntall a new active x control, agree. If you need "All " the updates for a clean install, http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/d.../corporate.asp Is the download site for corporate IT professionals where you can get them all to burn to disk.
