My in-laws have just bought a new pc (3400 MHz, celeron running XP) and asked for my help setting it up. No problem I thought!!! The new pc did not come with a modem so I took the old PCI modem out of their old pc and installed it in their new pc. I then set up their old freeserve account, after a short panic looking for passwords etc we were online examining their e-mails and the net. Then I installed Zone alarm free edition as they only had windows firewall which I have read elsewhere is rubbish. I disabled the windows firewall and tried to go back online. No joy. I uninstalled freeserve and reinstalled it again checked network settings etc no joy. I have now discovered that I can only connect if I disable Zone alarm first and then enable it once connected. I am quite convinced that this is an easy fix but I am just not seeing it. Please help sleep needed!!

I too had the problem. What one has to do is go into the Zonealarm program/down to program control/and over to programs. Once there look for the internet program you are using and set the trust level of the program to your liking. Hope that helped.
