IE6 security issue
My mom has been complaining of an issue where she can't access any sites that require a login/password. When I go to comcast.net I get a page that [basically] says the page I'm trying to access can't be displayed because of my security settings. When I go to hotmail.com the page doesn't even load. The whole page is just blank. I went to Tools|Internet Options|Security Tab and tried to lower the security settings from 'medium' to 'medium-low' or 'low'. As soon as I release the slider bar I get the following error:
"The recommended security level for this zone is Medium. The level that you have chosen is lower than this. Please choose a security level of medium or higher". Then the slider goes right back to 'medium'. I have never seen this before and I haven't seen much on the TSF message boards regarding this error. My mom swears that it started happening right after I installed AVG. I tried to shut down/disable AVG through msconfig. I went into the task manager and looked for anything 'of interest'. I tried to go into safe mode with networking. I tried to uninstall AVG. There are no other anti-virus programs running. I ran a full virus scan with the AVG. I ran a Ad-Aware scan. Both gave no hits. I don't think that it could be AVG. In the last two months I have installed AVG in over a half dozen computers (eight to be exact) and none of these PCs have had any problems at all. Including my mom's other PC. She is on a dial-up with a local ISP connecting usually at 36 - 40 Kbs which makes me reluctant to download and install firefox. Plus, she is used to IE6 and would not like to learn a new browser. I am hoping to be able to fix the problem rather than trying to find a work around. What could be causing the problem with setting security settings? More importantly, how do I get IE6 to display pages that require login/passwords? Thanks, -Lydokane- |

Try adding hotmail.com to the sites in trusted zone.
OR in tools/ internet options/ security / internet zone click custom. Scroll down to scripting make sure Active scripting is enabled and you have allow for java and active x (Ie there are three options there enable all of them) Double check your clock in the lower right system tray. Double click it to adjust. Make sure not only that time is right but time zone is correct. If they are off, hotmail and secure sites will block you. If you have a popup blocker , turn it off. Many of these use java redirects which popup blockers will close.
