A bit off topic but IP proxy servers.
does anyone know a (free) website that allows you to browse anonymously without your IP showing or possibly letting the server think that your IP is something else?
this is becuase i usually posts in other forums too and they have a habbit of showing my IP. |

Let me explain how a proxy works as well as the internet.
When you want to view a website you ask your isp to look up the IP address of the site and send it a request to send your IP a copy of the page you want. When you use a proxy, instead of going through your ISP, you use some other server so you send them the request; they send a request to the site in question and ask it to send the page to them and then they send it to you. Now this all pertains to just one port Port 80 which handles HTTP traffic with TCP/IP protocol. So you can get copies of web pages HTTP content without giving up your IP. But here is the secret; web pages often contain more than just HTTP content, they contain calls for other content (Java, flash , ads) which do not necessarily go through HTTP port 80. It is quite simple for the admin of any site to run simple code on their site to see past a proxy . So if you think you can hide illegal activity from the RIAA or FBI or hide your identity from a forum web master; no you can't if they do not want you to. If proxies were all powerful everyone would use AOL since all their traffic goes through proxies. Try this And this
