Please help, cannot change Internet Settings

Okay, I'm having problems with MSN with the error 80072efd, and the way to fix it requires me to do something in the Internet Options.

As I have had this problem for so long, I know what to do, but for some reason, Internet won't allow me. I go into my LAN settings and click "Automatically detect settings". Well I did that. But after I click "OK", it goes back to the default as if I pressed cancel.

Now I'm not sure why this is happening. Just to let it be known, I do not use IE at all, I use Firefox. IE is not my default browser.

Another strange thing that may relate to the problem, IE doesn't work at all. Every page I try to go to says "Page Cannot be Displayed". Every single site, doesn't matter what. That's why I use Firefox now.

Help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It doesn't say "apply" anywhere, I just checked the box and pressed OK, and it just went back to default.
