ie no longer displays images

I have a dell 9300, winxppro. (I'm a internet developer, asp.net, cfm, ...) I did something... what i don't know, but now images 95% of the time do not display and the ie browserr acts like it's continously trying to down load images.
I have a wide display. and i did two things before this happened
1. i downloaded and installed a desktop theme (since uninstalled)
2. i set my optomizes to high (manuel) in controlpannel/system (since switched back to let windows do it)

Cache is cleared, checkbox is yes for display graphics
anyhelp would be appreciated.

Possibly. Download Ad-Aware (www.lavasoft.de) and Spybot S&D (www.safernetworking.org) and run them both.
