Alter registry for problems with only one site?
Should I assume you want me to go to the website and repair IE? The error msg is only attached to one particular site, though. Should I alter the registry for that reason?

not if it is only at one site, the problem could be the site, security settings, popup blocker, not accepting their cookie
have you tried another browser to see if the same happens when you go to the site run sfc /scannow

Site access problem from all browsers
This happens with Firefox and IE. The site tells me it is a corrupt driver- I disagree because it's only one site. It only happens when I try to log into the site- I can browse the site without problem. I even set up a new user name and password thinking there might be a problem with my name/password but the same thing happened with the new name.
What can I check- any ideas? |

No XP CD
Thanks-didn't realize there was a space. New problem: I dont have the XP CD. The software came pre-packaged by HP as a recovery disc. When I run sfc/scannow, it asks for the Windows CD- but I don't think the recovery disc is what they mean. What happens if I insert the recovery disk- will it cause any other problems?

How to copy CD/DVD driver details
Went to the site re: how to copy the pieces of the recovery disc. It then sent me to a link that told me to copy the CD driver which is proprietary. I don't know how to do this. They say to open the device manager for the CD/DVD, click on driver details and then copy the contents of the box.. But how to do this? I can't copy from the dialogue box- do I go into the progam file and try to find the contents there?

follow up query
There doesn't appear to be a windows folder in my program files so I can't find the individual file for system 32\drivers\cdrom.sys Is that because it's in the recovery disk? Not sure what to do here

it is a link i saw and bookmarked thought it might come in handy,we don't get these recovery disks here except mainly on laptops,so i have never got my hands on one to get a good look at it.
browse your recovery disks for the files and see what you can find

Another thought about the error msg.
Been thinking about this problem and it's origins- is it possible that the installation of Firefox interfered with Explorer causing this error msg. On another site that I access with firefox, I can browse the site but can't chat. Firefox closes whenever I try to enter a chat room. These are both sites I've used for quite awhile without a problem before.
