Major problems yesterday! Everything was working fine this morning, get home from work and my computer has major issues. Volume control icon is gone and so is my bottom toolbar. Got the toolbar restored and tried to open volume control through the menu and it tells me the audio mixer is not found. No sound whatsoever. Also, I cannot get IE to open in any way. Not through the shortcut, start menu, or icon on the toolbar. Also tried through Yahoo Messenger and a few other applications. I'm wondering if this is a virus? No virus software installed and I can't access the internet to get one. I'm usuing my old crappy comp for right now. Please help, I really don't want to spend a lot of money to get this fixed if I don't have to. I also noticed that Windows is taking longer than usual to boot up.
I have Windows XP and IE version 8, no antivirus software installed (forehead slap) What I've tried so far: Trying to access the internet in Safe Mode w/ Networking checked Cryptographic settings tried to access IE w/o addons/disabled all add-ons cleared out cache, cookies and temp files Tried system restore, but was given an error message saying "System restore cannot protect your computer" and it tells me to restart. |
