[SOLVED] IE Can't Display Webpage, but Confirmed Connection to Internet

I am running XP on a Toshiba Qosmio G25.

When I launch IE Explorer, I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

When I first got the message, I thought maybe my wireless connection had dropped. However, I confirmed that I was connected with an "Excellent" signal strength and a status of "connected". I also noticed that Weather Bug had successfully connected to the Internet and displayed the current day's forecast. I tried launching another program that automatically goes to the vendor's Website and checks for the latest version. I got a message alerting me to the fact that a newer version was available and asked if I wanted to download that latest version. I successfully download the update.

I then checked "network Connections" and saw that the Internet Gateway and Networks all displayed "connected".

I then tried connecting via direct cable to my router and turned off the wireless access, but I still couldn't connect to the Internet through IE Explorer. However, my desktop cabled directly to the same router had no problems connecting.

I then thought maybe my version of IE Explorer had become corrupted, and tried loading a new copy but no change in results. Likewise, I tried using a copy of Netscape with the same results.

Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Thanks.

Re: IE Can't Display Webpage, but Confirmed Connection to Internet

Welcome to TSF

What version of IE are you using? When you stated you loaded a new copy did you uninstall previous then install new version?

Try and Clear Your Browser's Cache
http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache

Try this too:
If you have XP-SP3 or Vista, you should use the built-in repair for the WINSOCK and TCP/IP stack. If you have XP-SP1 or earlier (and any previous version of Windows), you should use the Automated WINSOCK Fix all Windows Versions. I've included all the resets here.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP3.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

Or, try reseting all of your IE settings to default.

Tools > Options > Advanced tab > Reset.

This has worked for me several times in the past.

Re: IE Can't Display Webpage, but Confirmed Connection to Internet

I am using IE 8.

Symantec tech support helped get everything correctly working again. They said that PCs running Norton 360 are running into conflicts with IE 8. The rep said it was a known issue and was able to correct it.
