Some web pages don't display correctly in IE8

www.recipezaar.com and www.foodnetwork.com don't display the buttons and stars for the recipes' reviewed. The pictures show up and the videos work.

I've cleared temporary internet files, deleted cookies, turned off McAfee security, added the websites to every place that IE will let me as trusted, etc. They display incorrectly in Firefox too. I've also checked the Hosts file. Recipezaar uses img.recipezaar.com to display these buttons.

Attached is the home page. If you look in the top right side, you'll see vertical lines. There should be buttons displaying there, like COOKBOOK, MY ACCOUNT, etc. Below is a screen shot of recipe reviews. There should be stars showing next to the recipe name (or Chef's name...not sure since I can't see them!!)

Any thoughts?

Welcome to TSF

First try and Clear Your Browser's Cache
http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache

Then try Clicking the Compatibility View button in the Address bar. When displayed, this button appears to the left of the Refresh button and contains an image of a broken piece of paper. This enables Compatibility mode for all documents in the domain of the Web site being viewed.

Re: Some web pages don't display correctly in IE8

I forgot to mention that these web sites didn't display correctly in IE7 either. That was one reason why I installed IE8 (hoping it would fix the problem). So, compatibility view doesn't help! Also, clearing the cache didn't help either.

Re: Some web pages don't display correctly in IE8

I did need to update the Java software. I go the attached screen when I went to the Adobe web site, which I believe is telling me both Shockwave and Flashplayer are installed. I restarted the computer, but I'm still not seeing the buttons or stars on either of the web sites. Ellen

Have you tried disabling McAfee?

Regarding disabling McAfee, yes, that was one of the first things I tried.

Re: Some web pages don't display correctly in IE8

Doesnt seem to be browser specific. Run the System File Checker, possibly missing / corrupt system files.

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

In all likelihood you will be prompted to insert the Windows XP CD.
