Wininet fails with 12057 in IE8

I have written a client application which uses WinInet api to connect to HTTPS server.
When IE8 is installed in the system HttpSendRequest fails with 12057 error. Even after setting SECURITY_FLAGS_IGNORE_REVOCATION flag using InternetSetOptions api it fails with 12057 error code.

In My application I am trying to download 2 files.
1. While downloading first file I get 12057 error and using InternetSetOptions api SECURITY_FLAGS_IGNORE_REVOCATION flag is set. Then the first file gets downloaded properly.
2. While downloading second file I again see the error 12057, this time when I set the option Ignore revocation and then make HttpSendRequest it again fails with 12057 error.

The same application works properly with IE6 or IE7 installed in the system with "Check for server certificate revocation" option selected in the browser options.

Please kindly let me know why is it failing only when downloading second file and with IE8 browser.
