IE 8 - Why Did I Ever "Upgrade"?

I "upgraded" to IE8 from IE7 this morning and I am ready to cry! The screen constantly flickers and, without my requesting it, everything is bigger (i.e.: font size, display size, ads) my folders no longer display on my desktop and my Word 2003 files display as Word 2007 files which has not been activated and which I do not choose to use or pay for. I can't believe I trusted Microsoft again!!!

Can someone please help?

Did you install the full release version?

Have you tried using the compatibility view?

yes, I did. The screen now flickers on every website I go to.
