[SOLVED] IE (and other internet programs) doesn't connect to the internet

Hi, i am having trouble with IE7.

problem -
when i try to load any internet page using internet explorer i get the following message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

possibly related factors -

• The system i use is windows xp, professional.
• My FireFox browser also does not work, i get the message "Failed to Connect" when i try to load any internet page.
• My Opera browser connects to the internet and loads internet pages fine.
• Programs such as MSN Messenger and Teamspeak work fine.
• Other programs such as Ventrillo and mIRC do not connect to the internet, they tell me they cannot access the server.
• This problem began after FireFox automatically updated.

I have tried these solutions -
Turning off my computer's firewalls and my router's firewalls.
Openning ports.
Resetting my router and computer (obviously i've tried this).
Resetting programs (like IE) to their original settings.
Redownloading programs (like IE).

I thought maybe it's my router that's the problem. But my other router has died so i can't do anything if it is the router.
I really don't know what to do to try to fix this problem now so hopefully somebody will be able to help me.

I have managed to solve the problem :) :)

My old anti virus software did not install properly and was prohibiting these programs from accessing the internet. Everything is fixed now.
