twitter "direct messaging" failure

Hello, I am new to this forum.

My question is: What would cause my p.c. to fail to be able to send a direct message to new and existing "twitter followers" on twitter.com?

I can send out "tweets" just fine, however my p.c. won't allow "direct messaging" capability". What happens when I go to send a direct message now, is a little pop-up appears in the middle of the monitor screen, saying "file security warning" .....do this OR this OR this with the file. Anyone familiar with this?This is a recent "development" (if that's the right word for it)
Everything was fine with twitter as of a few weeks ago?

I thought it was McAfee problem,however it wasn't. It must be an operating software "glitch" or a browser problem. I'm utilizing "Internet Explorer 8". This problem is most annoying,as it prevents me from "direct messaging" my twitter followers.

Is this version of IE8 the final realse or the BETA?
