ie7 dns problem vista
vista sp1 - ugrade occured 4/16/2009 - IE7 no longer works - dns problem - everything else that uses the net seems to work fine. wireshark shows that IE7 never does a dns access, only some kind of netbios call
can't access by ip either - read previous posts from 20078-2008 on this nothing there helps. firefox works fine. incredimail, aol messenger all work and wireshark shows they are really making a dns access. This is a major problem that MS has created, again.

Re: ie7 dns problem vista
still couldn't figurre it out -stopped again - removed it from norton 360 thinking I could readd it - wrong ! tried to contact norton support - now thats a real laugh- basically there is no real support unless you want to pay the $70 each call on the product they sold you. - when my subsrciption expires I will be leaving them for their lack of support.
Anyway - could not get ie7 back into nortons list of programs - so my recourse was to use firefox to load and install ie8. when ie8 was started, norton recognized it and asked if ie8 was to be added, and I said yes. So far this is now working. dns lookup from ie8 is occuring - I can only surmise that the netbios lookups were because it couldn't do dns thru the fiewall and now it can. hope this helps someone. |
