IE8 installation problems

Hello, I installed IE8 when it came out and I also had one of the multi IE programs installed so I could check my xhtml/css code in IE6. It was causing me problems with Java working in IE because I think it was mixing up the registry and wasn't reading the version right. I then used Revouninstaller to uninstall the multi IE and when it came up with all of the extra registry entries there were over 16,000 and entries and I deleted them all. I knew I shouldn't have and I now know I have made a big mistake because now my IE reads as 4.01. When I try to install IE8 again from Microsoft it says that I have a newer version installed. I have no idea what to do. I can't get help from Microsoft because I don't have money and can't sign up for their tech help. I have Vista 64 bit with x86.
