Connecting

When I first started using IE, I could start typing my url in the address bar right away. Now, for about the last year or two, when I "open" IE, I have to wait a minute or two before it will do anything. IE displays a message that says "Connecting" during this period. What is being connected? And why can't I enter my url address while I'm waiting.

I have verified that this situation is NOT unique to my computer or my isp.

(BTW, I also have this problem with FireFox.)

Go to start / computer / right click on drive "C" / perform Disk Clean up / click YES / Okay.
