Hi, I normally use Firefox for browsing, and this works fine. Recently, however, FF won't display properly a tool I use frequently, so I decided to use IE or Chrome to use this tool.
Neither will connect to the web. IE8 says 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'; Chrome 'This web page is not available. The web page at null might be temporarily down...' My settings are: Windows XP SP2 Router: Thomson TG585 v7 (Firewall disabled) Firewall: Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5 ISP: Tiscali After running the IE8 diagnostics tool, it says to check if the common ports are open. I checked port 80, and apparently it's closed. I've tried opening it on the router 'Game and Application Sharing' section, but to no avail. I've also tried turning off Kerio, and this doesn't work either, and the router firewall is always disabled anyway. What doesn't seem to make sense to me is that surely port 80 would have to be open for Firefox to work, anyway? On a side note that is possibly related - if I try to use SopCast or ICC Dasher (Internet Chess Club), neither will work. This is because, I think, they seem to use IE as their means of connecting to the internet (an IE page appears with each), which doesn't work in general. So the problem extends beyond the rare instances that I want to use IE as a browser. Any help on this would be much appreciated. |

Re: Can't access internet with IE (8) or Google Chrome
Does no one have any idea about this? I'm guessing that the problem is to do with some protocol settings in Windows, or with the router, so if I posted this in the wrong forum I'll happily repost it.
