slowing while surfing

why is it that my internet connection is very fast when its just the beginning? but when it is already an hour it starts to run so slow, the program that i am running is only limewire and and two internet explorer, is it because of the virus?

comp specs:
1gig ram
athlon64
80 gig hard disk
ecs motherboard

If you suspect a virus, you should check in with malware.
Do you have anything like AV scans scheduled to autorun at a set time maybe running in the background?

Your speed is probably being throttled back by your ISP seeing your P2P activity.
