I keep getting "This page can not be displayed" I need Help!
I recently did a PC recovery from my hard drive. I have Windows XP. My internet was working for a day, now I am having problems. I have dSL. I have disconnected all cables and reconnected. I have tried to reinstall the DSL software and I keep getting the error to check all cables on the Internet Explorer 7 page. The dSL router is working, because I can get on with my laptop, just not with my desktop, it keeps displaying "this page can not be displayed. I have also deleted all temp files in the internet options. I thought about the modern drivers. but how do I reinstall them if I don't have access to the internet with this PC? What can it be that's stopping me from getting on? Please help I'm desperate.

Re: I keep getting "This page can not be displayed" I need Help!
Since you have had internet for one day and you are able to connect to internet with the Laptop it should not be the modem.
We can check all the possibilities but it might take more than one post. Do you have a firewall other than Windows firewall? Do this first: Close Internet Explorer. Go to start > Control Panel > internet options.

Re: I keep getting "This page can not be displayed" I need Help!
Thank you for your help. I have did all you have told me. But it is worded differently than you stated and differently than my laptop states. I deleted the temp files. There wasn't a place to check delete files and settings stored by add-ons. under advanced tab I clicked restore defaults. Restarted my PC. I still didn't work. But now my connection states "Local Area Connection is Now Connected. Speed:100.0 Mbps"

Just removing the temporary files is not enough. You mentioned you have IE 7:
Quote:
If you have IE 7 then you should have this: Open Internet Options. Under General tab press Delete... you get a window pop up press Delete All you will get another window pop up. Put a checkmark in the box next to Also delete files and settings stored by Add-ons click Yes. Please tell me you have done this then we move on to the next step. |

Re: I keep getting "This page can not be displayed" I need Help!
Hi
I have checked and on my desktop that is having problems, my Internet Explorer 7 has changed to version: IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2. How do I get IE 7 back, if I can't get on? |

Re: I keep getting "This page can not be displayed" I need Help!
Hi,
Do you have any errors in the Device Manager? If so please post them. Have you powered cycled the modem? Turn off ALL systems (Modem/Router/Computers) and unplug them from the power source. Power up the modem and wait for the lights to turn solid Power up the router (If you have one) and wait a few minutes Power up the computers (One at a time) and wait for it to obtain an IP Address. Check for a internet connection. If that fails: Go to the Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections Tab>Lan Settings Tab Check to have it Automatically Detect Settings Go back to the Control Panel>Network Connections>Right Click on Local Area Connections>Repair Hope this helps, Bill |

Seems the problem is not the modem or router as I read in the first post:

+++++++++++++ You can download IE 7 from here to you laptop. Then transfer it to this computer and install it. Then follow the steps I have suggested to clean everything. Make sure the cable connecting to the router is not broken. |

Re: I keep getting "This page can not be displayed" I need Help!
Please don't miss my previous post.
I think it is a good idea to install Firefox. Firstly if you get connected with Firefox then we know for sure the problem is within IE. Another advantage is that you can download IE7 from the link and install it. To install Firefox use the laptop to download the installer and transfer it to the computer. You can Download Firefox from its official site and save it to your desktop. When installing it asks you if you want to import from IE, select NO. This we can do later on. After installing Firefox (it takes less than a minute) go to link given in previous post to download IE7. |
