IE7 Save Locations...

When I try to download sevral pictures in a short time, after the first save I go through and select the location. When I get to the second, it goes back to the "My Documents" directory. How can I change it so it uses the same directory as the last file I saved?

Is there a settings for this?

Re: IE7 Save Locations...

Welcome to TSF

The default "save to" Folder will default to the last Folder used to save a file. IE7 on Windows XP and Vista work basically the same with regard to a Default "Save to" Folder for downloads, with a couple of exceptions.

On Windows XP the Default Download Folder is:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents

On Windows Vista the Default Download Folder is:
C:\users\username\Downloads

On both Operating Systems, the first time you select a folder other than the Default Folder for saving a file, a Registry "String Value" is created in the following Registry Key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
String Value= Download Directory
Data Value= C:\"Path to Directory"

The next time you save a file using the File Download dialog box(Clicking
"Save"), the file will be directed to the path that was created in the
Registry Key above. The Data value of that Key is dynamic, and will change if you select a different Folder in the "Save As" screen that comes up after you click the "Save" button.

So there is no need for you to make any manual Registry change with regard to the Default Save to folder, that is done for you on the fly when you select the folder in the "Save As" screen during the download process.

If your downloads are currently going to your Desktop, that means you have a Data Value(in the above Registry Key) that looks like this:
C:\Users\Username\Desktop

To change that Data Value, the next time you save a file use the Folder
navigation in the "Save As" screen to navigate to your folder:

C:\Users\User Name\Favorites\Downloads

as save the file. Doing this will automatically change the Data Value in the above Registry key to:

C:\Users\User Name\Favorites\Downloads

And thereafter, when you save a file it will default to that folder, unless
you change it again in the "Save As" screen.

Hope this helped
