Internet Explorer encountering problems and closing

Internet Explorer kept encountering problems and closing constantly and I became so frustrated that I switched to Firefox. Why did this happen ? One after another it said that it has to shut down because it encountered a problem ?

Re: Internet Explorer encountering problems and closing

It's always a good idea to have more than one browser. Firefox is solid. Are you using Internet Explorer 7? You may have already tried this but disable third party cookies in your privacy settings. This could be a spyware or trojan issue. What are you using for security?

Where can I check to see which version of Internet Explorer I am using ?

Where is privacy settings located ? What are third party cookies, I know what cookies are but what is a third party cookie ?

I use McAfee for security.

Thanks,

Re: Internet Explorer encountering problems and closing

Click on Internet Explorer on your desktop and bring up your IE page. Click on help>about Internet Explorer. This will give you your version. To disable 3rd party cookies; on the same page select Tools>Internet options>Privacy>Advanced>Select override automatic cookie handling>Select accept first party cookies>Select block third party cookies>Select always allow session cookies. Click OK. Third party cookies are explained here. http://www.opentracker.net/en/articl...hird-party.jsp.

Do you have your Windows automatic updates enabled in Control panel>Security center? Be sure your McAfee security is updated. Try adding this program to both IE and Firefox. Select manual updates so you can receive free updates. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Your problems may be a windows issue, but I'm thinking something got inside your IE browser from web surfing. Run your updated McAfee scanner. Further post and I will suggest another option. Good luck.

Re: Internet Explorer encountering problems and closing

I checked and 3rd party cookies are disabled in my privacy settings.

I have IE version 7.0.6001.18000 for Windows Vista SP1 , Windows Server 2008.

IE version 8 is still in the Beta testing stage isn't it ? So I don't think it is available yet ?

This problem was happening at a web site called hollywoodrag.com. It is a celebrity gossip web site.

I wasn't even aware IE 8 was in the making. Good luck with this.
