What is "looking at hps"?
Is this some kind of web site or web page? HPs to me are Hewlett-Packard computers. You need to provide much more detail to receive the best help.

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.
1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'. 2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log. 3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Well, my friend, unless you can download some diagnostic tools, we don't have much info to go on here. This HJT app is a very small download as this one, which also may help:
Download WinsockFix and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

Hi aur0n ,
Just want to add that one does not have to intentionally download something that has spyware or a virus program. Some of the sites that we visit on a regular basis or even those we don't visit can put things on your computer via an open port and we don't know it until we begin to have problems. Those are the things that HiJackThis finds and you are able to delete them and have a smooth running computer. I read constantly on here that this person has excellent anti-virus or spyware programs (and they actually do...like Norton, Avast, AVI, Pcillin, and many others), but things still slip through the best of them. Even Internet Explorer and Netscape has those bugs slip in when you are connected and that is why you have the Internet Explorer Service packs that keep coming out....The company is just trying to plug the holes that they have or find from time to time. It would be my suggestion that you consider downloading this very small program that CTSNKY (he is one of our finest here on the forum) suggested and he can help YOU to get rid of the stuff that does not belong there. You would be the one to get rid of it as you and CTSNKY identify the problem. Well, that is my two cents worth....might be worth considering. Last edited by mark3567; 01-09-2005 at 01:07 PM. |

Feel free to have a look around our HijackThis forum for the hundreds of daily messages discussing the use of this program for spyware removal. The name is kind of a slam at the spyware creators, because it blows away the things they create.

Hi aur0n,
Yep, sure do understand with a name like that. I don't exactly know why they came up with HiJackThis unless it was a taunt to those who tried to hijack our computers like CTSNKY said. Nonetheless, it is quite a popular program to get rid of the spyware if you will view some of the things it finds. The program by the way finds both good and bad, and then one gets rid of the bad. Just a thought you might want to consider, but sure do understand why you came to your first conclusion. For Anti-spyware, the name does not fit, but the darn thing works anyhow. Hey, regardless of what you decide, nice chatting with you. Hope you stay around the forum. Last edited by mark3567; 01-10-2005 at 02:51 PM. |
