IE7 error immediately upon opening

Windows XP IE7 has been working great until a recent auto update. Apparently something went wrong and now IE will not even open, it gets to the opening screen then immediately pops up "Encountered a problem needs to close". The data in the error is as follows:

Appname: iexplore.exe Appver:7.0.6000.16735 Modname:rpcrt4.dll
Modver:5.1.2600.5512 Offset:000858b9

I've restored to point before auto update and still no good. When I went to get on computer after the auto update it appeared that computer was locked up in "shutting down" mode on the auto restart. Something went wrong but just dont know what. Rest of computer seems to be working just fine and same as always. ANY SUGGESTIONS.

System File checker: sfc/ scanow

**Note: You will need A Windows XP CD for this exercise**
  • Please insert the Windows XP CD into your CD/DVD drive.
  • Click Start, then Run
  • Copy and paste the command below into the text box (with out the quotation marks)
    sfc /scannow
  • Click Ok
  • During the scan you may be asked to Insert the A Windows XP CD, if this happens just click retry and let it do its thing.

Please post back with the results.

Re: IE7 error immediately upon opening

Scan was completed but still no difference. Is there a way to undo or remove those updates I know what day it happened or a way to reconfig IE7. Thanks
