Doesn't Load ANY Web Pages

QUOTE=Go The Power;1850762]what firewall do you have[/quote]

Hi,
I am having this same problem, I write this to you on the same PC I am having the issue, however using firefox. So that tells me a few things.

A. its not really a DNS issue.
B. Its not a router or ISP issue
C. Something is whacked in IE.

Sorry, the last part is a bit obvious.

I have tried everything and quite embarrassed to say that I am a Geek by profession. And am at a loss.

So what I have done:

Everything in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926431

This:
Click Start =>Run, type in CMD, press OK.

Copy and paste this into the Command prompt:

netsh winsock reset catalog

Press Enter

Then copy and paste this in:

netsh int ip reset reset.log

Press Enter.

When finished restart your computer.

And

Uninstalled IE7 (6 is still broken after)

uninstalled SP3,

Uninstalled Zonealarm 8.x.x

I also used malwarebytes to scan for the standard items

Reinstalled Java, Flash,.....

The only time I could ever get IE to work (all the time)was in safe mode with network support. Sometimes I get lucky and it works for that “session”. But if I open another IE window that one will not work. I can open other tabs in the Temporally working IE window, but a new IE window by clicking on any of the Icons or the EXE would most likely fail.

Also some helpful information is: Turning off all services, running IE in "no add-on" mode etc... does nothing.

Sorry for the epic. Anyone have any thoughts? I really do not want to have to an in-place re-install they never go quite the way you want them to go, but that is the only thing left I can think of.

Thanks!

Spinaltaprocks

Sorry one more thing. Performing this step:

Method 2: Run the Network Diagnostics tool in Internet Explorer crashes IE.

Re: Doesn't Load ANY Web Pages

GTP,

I have done so much I almost have forgotten what I have done. LOL anyway yes I have done the reset thing (atleast once).

I will do the toolbarcop thing later this evening.

And one other item that I had forgotten, a few times i have gotten the following "bang" error in the bottom left corner stating "htmlcontent undefined". I can post a pic later if you feel it might be helpful, as I am not on that PC right now.

Sorry for any spelling issues, no time to proof read.

Thanks for your reply,
STR

I installed fiddler2 do view the http traffic. the strange thing is that there is none... its like IE is not even looking for the site, its just giving me the message it can't be found. Id does look for the home page, and in once case it actually loaded! but then any other bookmarks i tried to open, i got nothing.

Re: Doesn't Load ANY Web Pages

Update: I re-installed sp3 last night and now the DNS diagnostic tool in IE no longer crashes. BUT... these are the results

Last diagnostic run time: 12/15/08 08:23:27 HTTP, HTTPS, FTP Diagnostic
HTTP, HTTPS, FTP connectivity

info FTP (Passive): Successfully connected to ftp.microsoft.com.
info HTTP: Successfully connected to www.microsoft.com.
info HTTPS: Successfully connected to www.microsoft.com.

So, the tool says nothing is wrong. but IE won't properly display any web pages... properly. as I have said beore some times they load half way. its totally random!

Re: Doesn't Load ANY Web Pages

i use zonealarm internet suite. I have tried, not loading this at startup, as well as completely uninstalling. either or both make no difference. I think i had this up in an earlyer post, but in safe mode it works fine. so, to that end i have already tried disabling all services(except for ones i need, like DHCP etc..) and all startup items to "in effect" emulate safe mode and it does not help. I think i has something to do with the way the browser is seeing the nic configuration or something. Because all diagnostics say everything is ok, (ncluding the one i can launch from IE) and yet IE can display pages.

I friend of mine that is a certified MSD said that there is an issue that he has seen with SP3 where this happens not only with IE but any browsers, so Im lucky. the only way he has been able to fix it was to roll back the machine or reinstall windows. since every date I choose to restore to i get the message that it can't I may be forced to reinstall. Or "never use IE again, since Firefox works fine.

Unless you have anything else profound or there is someone else that can add something, I think I will let you off the hook on this and say thank you for your efforts and move on.

Regards,
Spinaltaprocks
