multiple internet explorers

My stepson has an account on my PC and sometimes when he is surfing the net, multiple Internet Explorer windows keep popping up. Each time he closes a window, more keep popping up (even after disconnecting the modem). The only way to get rid of them is to select 'close group' on the taskbar. Does anyone know what the cause of this is and what can be done about it?

What version of ie do you have

what antivirus and security programs do you have installed

I have IE 7 installed, and use AVG free edition
