[SOLVED] IE 7 Engine Error

I have a red bar on IE 7 that says, "Engine Error." I use Norton 360 v 1. It says my transactions are not secure, but the fix button does nothing. I assume the two are related, and related in turn to phishing protection. Any idea how to approach the troubleshoot?

Hi Arthur,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

This error message indicates that your installation of Norton 360 is corrupt. I would also like to let you know that as long as your subscription to Norton 360 is valid, you are entitled to a free upgrade to Norton 360 version 2, which I highly encourage you to do.

Please follow the instructions below to properly remove and reinstall the upgraded version of Norton 360.

1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

Norton Removal Tool and instructions

2. After you run the tool, restart your computer .Log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.

3. Follow the instructions on the following page to re-download the latest installer for Norton 360.

Re-download Norton Installer

4. After the installation is complete, launch Norton 360 version 2.x and mouse-over the "PC Security" bubble and choose "Check for Updates" to ensure that all available updates are applied.

5. Mouse-over the "PC Security" bubble, clcik on "Run Scans" and choose "Comprehensive Scan."

Let me know if you have any problems.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: IE 7 Engine Error

Mr. York, You solved my problem perfectly. Thank you. My only other response is to ask that you at Norton work on how the program loads when Windows starts up. It easily adds about 2 or more minutes to the start up time. But at least now IE works as it should. Again, thank you.

Hi Arthur,

I'm happy to hear that you were able to get rid of the errors and get Norton 360 up and running. I will pass along your suggestion regarding the start up process to the correct team at Symantec.

Most of the time a slow system startup has to do with a lack of system resources. Symantec has a basic document on system resource optimization that you may want to follow.

Symantec guide to optimizing system resources

Thank you,
Mike

Hi edwardbain,

Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding.

Please follow the steps I presented in Post # 2 to resolve this issue.

In step # 3, you will be downloading the 2009 version of Norton AntiVirus which is a free update, as long as your subscription is valid. Please NOTE, that while this will provide you with Norton AntiVirus 2009, it will not extend your subscription.

If this does not resolve the issue for you, please let me know.

Thanks,
Mike
