IE stops connecting after a few minutes
Windows XP Pro SP2
IE7 7.0.5730.13 My internet connection is high-speed cable, and I use VoIP with a D-Link Gateway. For about the last 24 hrs, IE will stop connecting to webpages. Other things like Outlook Express and Firefox (which I'm currently using) are still able to connect... my phone works fine, and all lights on both modems are exactly as they should be... I called my ISP, and they 'sent me some packets and received them back fine' and have said everything looks fine from their end ... all of which makes me wonder if it's an IE-specific problem. I have rebooted my modem/gateway and rebooted my PC numerous times, and IE will work for a few minutes, but then suddenly stop. I have bypassed my gateway and hooked my internet directly to my cable modem (typically, the cable goes into the D-Link, and then from the D-Link into my cable modem) but even directly, the same problem persists, so I don't think it has anything to do with the VoIP interfering with anything. I have done a Spybot, and Ad-Aware, and nothing really turns up ... nothing has been found on my nightly AVG scan. I have also reinstalled IE7, but this has not helped either. Any ideas???

Re: IE stops connecting after a few minutes
... another clue? ... I was reading through some other threads here, and someone mentioned something about a program called "Bonjour" which twigged something for me ...
I remember early yesterday morning, when I came to the computer, there was a pop-up about some sort of Apple update ... I personally despise anything Apple, but my b/f has an iPod and uses iTunes on occasion, so I didn't click the "Install", but I think I chose the "Remind me later" option. Could it be that something to do with this Bonjour hasn't been properly updated, and is now messing up my IE? I just now removed it thru "Add/Remove Programs", and then re-booted the PC, but the IE problem still persists ... |

Re: IE stops connecting after a few minutes
I think I've solved it myself ... I was reading in here about someone's failed update to ZoneAlarm, and realized that my ZA icon was not in the system tray as it usually is. I uninstalled ZA, and things have been fine, surfing around in IE without a problem (*fingers crossed*).
I dunno if I'll reinstall it ... maybe do some reading for an alternative. I appreciate the info on here, it definitely helped me solve my problem. This thread can be closed. |
