browsers freezing

both my firefox and my internet explorer browsers are freezing constantly, i know its not the internet connection because my email and my im chat work just fine. pages take about 10 mins to load (although they do eventually load) and i can't figure out the problem! ive run spyware checks and compressed all my disk space, i have tons of free space so the problem is definitely not a lack of space on my hd...does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be? i'm also studying abroad in spain, and since spanish is not my first language i'm weary of taking my computer to some kind of technician...thank you all so much for your time!
