i need help
i need help with my internet every time i go on firefox it tells me the network timed out but i can still sign in on msn.. it does the same with internet explorer.
a few days ago i had to use system restore because i couldn't log in to my user account. also my HD is corrupt... umm would that have anything to do with this? plz help.. i mean if you can.

FIRST: Your big mistake is using System Restore. This is a very, very unreliable tool that should be used ONLY when everything else fails. AND it should NOT be used for virus problems. From your description your restore screwed your system up (typical).
What you should have tried...
You did not state HOW you connect the the internet (Dialup or Broadband). You need to check the settings for whatever hardware (via Device Manager) you use to connect, pay attention to the driver and check all tabs. Also your connection Properties in Network Connections. Open Internet Options, pay attention to the Connections tab AND check in the Advanced tab. By the way, I have NEVER use System Restore since Windows came out.

well i don't have a win xp setup disk as there was a fire in the room where we keep all the files a few years ago.. i did try the other things.. but nothing worked and chkdsk just freezes...
i'm more than a little stuck oh btw i have broandband. i'm getting a new computer anyway iv'e been putting it off for so long now.btw TROY1170 good luck with your computer
