NEW ISSUE: Never Seen Before in IE 7 - HELP!!!!!
Dear Internet Explorer Gods - I NEED HELP. BAAAAADDDDD.....
I own an insurance agency and my own PC has begun having problems that are afffecting my business with regards to IE7. I access many secure sites each day (Progressive, Travelers, Safeco, etc) and there have been NO PROBLEMS until a week or so ago. Now when I go to these business-related sites and log in to perform a quote or policy change, I have random errors that prevent pages from loading, drop-down boxes are no longer present, etc. All of my other computers access these sites just fine, this problem is local to my own P I am running Windows XP (SP2) with Internet Explorer 7.0 (latest updates). All Windows updates are done automatically. Here's what's happening: When I log into one of my company’s / carrier’s sites, drop-down boxes that should be there for the selection of items are no longer present, page headers look different and they 'expand' across the page if I roll over a hyperlink that has a drop-down menu, etc. Also, when logging into my Progressive Insurance site, using my login and password, I immediately get the following pop-up window: A Message from Progressive Progressive recommends Internet Explorer® version 6.0 or later to fully utilize the functionality on FAO. Without Internet Explorer, some features of FAO will not work properly. Use Windows Update or go to the Microsoft® Web site to get the latest version of Internet Explorer. Then, after I close that pop-up and try to select a hyperlink to a policy or to do a new quote, another Internet Explorer window opens (completely blank) except for this bolded text: Internet Explorer 5 or greater is required. My PC is telling me I don’t have the right version of Internet Explorer – BUT I DO and this was working just fine a week ago. I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of (as listed below) and I am at my wits end. I can’t do quotes or access policies and I need help. Here’s what I have done. NOTE: I did find a trojan / worm (listed as VB.EEJ by AVG Anti-virus) which was ‘healed’ or deleted by the software; but there has been no change in symptoms. 1. I have run many virus scans with the latest McAfee, Avast, AVG Antivirus and CA (Computer Associates) antivirus software. No viruses found. No adware / Malware to speak of (aside from normal cookies and junk) 2. I have updated and run Spybot and ‘immunized’ my system. No change in the problem. Just typical tracking cookies and stuff were found. 3. I have checked, re-checked, and verified all of my security settings and made sure that Progressive (and all varients) are listed as Trusted Sites. 4. I have run this with pop-up blocker both on and off. 5. I have disabled all add-ons for IE and tried it. No change. 6. I have contacted tech support at Progressive (and other carriers) and spent phone-time; it’s not on their end (remember, my other PC's work fine and this happens to many sites). 7. I have run Registry-Fix and have cleaned out bad registry entries and the like. 8. I have uninstalled and re-installed Internet Explorer 7 and downloaded all updates. No change. 9. I have downloaded and tried Firefox - exact same issues continue to happen. I have run out of options. Any ideas? |
