some sites not connecting,

as the title says, some site are not connecting, including google, yahoo, and support.microsoft.com, and most forums I know,
this has been happening on IE and Firefox (FF), thus I'm thinking it's not browser specific.

more info

this is what I have mentioned on another forum.
Quote:
For afew days now, my internet has been screwy,
At times, only this forum's portal loads, in IE it takes forever for the others, in FF 3 it doesn't load at all, while at other times IE only works,

Help?

After firefox three, I got snes 9X, chrono trigger, chrono temporial (editer), Various games from the Romance of The Three Kingdoms series, a blocking addon, and two themes.
not all in that order.

edit: Following SVChost,I Found Registry Booster 2 for 20$, however, Its work was slow, last time we had it fix all errors, it ran for three & 1/2 days, and only fixed 2.

Then it is possibly a different issue. :/

Let's go back to what's going on with your computer. Computer will not connect to (much of) anything on the Internet, right? EDIT: Please try to give me every single detail you possibly can.
on the contrary, only google, yahoo, and every forum I remember trying, (excluding this place's portal), these sites go up to 4 bars on IE, and not at all in FF.

EDIT: ah and,
1: around 90% of the registry errors were from Bots, an acclaim MMO.
2:the computer is a several years old HP pavillion a446x with windows XP
3: there are hidden files in the Fonts folder, left on by an old babysitter.(If you know how they could be reached tell me)

Re: some sites not connecting,

try to close/disable all other programs especially security software. if it works, probably one of those is causing the problem - uninstall or configure it if possible.

if the problem persists, try the following on the command line (ms dos prompt):

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

netsh winsock reset (for win xp sp2 or vista)

ipconfig /flushdns

Re: some sites not connecting,

you're using XP, right?

download/run this tool:

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

also, uninstall any unnecessary programs. disable programs that might be accessing the internet as well.

for registry errors, i suggest you use ezcleaner. it's the best free registry cleaning software out there.
