IE, FF and Outlook not displaying pages/email
Hi I have a desktop PC running XP SP3. Virgin broadband connected directly to PC via ethernet cable which is not displaying web pages in either IE or Firefox. I open Outlook I cannot retrieve any new mail and I cannot read my previous emails. The content of the message's are missing.
I have opened a command prompt and IPCONFIG and it is showing that I am connected to the internet, but still no page will display. I also have an icon in the taskbar which shows connection. I had been using the PC and everything was fine. Then my daughter used it and since then I cannot get a page displayed. I asked her what she had done and she tells me that she was using it as normal and turned it off. If she has done anything different she's not admitting it! I have tried a few times using system restore to get back to when the PC worked fine but that's not working. I know the internet is working as I have connected a laptop which is working fine, as I am using it now :). I have a firewall running which I stopped and tried to connect again to IE,FF and outlook but still the same thing was happening, so it's not my firewall. I would appreciate a point in the right direction to get this sorted. I have several emails which contain information I need but cannot access. ps. I also downloaded the latest versions of IE and Firefox to the laptop and using a flashdrive transferred and installed them on the PC, still no joy. Re: IE, FF and Outlook not displaying pages/email
For future referance if anyone has similar problems.
It was Windows messenger, MSN and it's componants which were causing the problems. I'm not sure exactly which one but one of the Live messenger apps. I uninstalled all of them, Live search, Live mail, MSN and others and now I can connect to all websites again. It would be interesting if someone could explain why something in the MSN live would prevent me from connecting to the net and reading my emails. It will help others with similar issues. |
