Cannot highlight text to use cut paste function.

I recently downloaded IE7 and ever since then I cannot highlight text in order to use the cut,copy, paste function. It works fine in Firefox, Outlook, Word and other applications. But I cannot highlight any text from any websites I visit in. There is one other program that I cannot use the highlight function which is a web based program called Encompass ( mortgage origination software ) .

At the time this problem happened I also lost the Alt + Tab function that allows you to jump from one application to another. I have since then fixed the problem by downloading a "power tool / cool tool?) I am not sure what it was called but it restored the Alt Tab function and also now previews the app in a small window before opening it.

The weird thing about the highlight cut and paste problem is that I can still highlight some text if I hold down the shift key when I am trying to highlight it. But it is not precise at all, as in I have no control over what exactly it highlights. Once text is highlighted, the cut and paste part works fine. I just cannot highlight the text ..

Somebody please help me with this.. I am struggling mightily to keep up with getting my work done

Ok , I might be on to something here... If I hold down CTRL+Y while I hold down the left mouse button I am able to highlight what ever I need to .. But if I just try and hold down the left clicker to highlight text .. Nothing..

Can anybody please tell me what is going on here ? I am glad I have found a way to still make it work, but would love to be ablke to just do it the good old fashioned way of just left clicking and mousing.

Ok, something new ..

I have now found another way to make it work ..

I first have to left click where I want the highlight to start, than I go to where in the text I want it to stop and then hold down shift and left click again. It will then highlight all the text in between the two points.

So while this is very nice that I have found some ways to circumvent the problem, my original question still stands.

How have I lost the traditional ability to click, drag and highlight and how do I get it back ?

Hi, I am having the same problem. There is no way I can highlight the text in IE.
Any idea?
