Blocked access to Internet Explorer

I have recently installed Avast Antivirus and, since installing it I am unable to access Internet Explorer browser. I have also installed Avast on some PCs at a school and they will access the home page of the browser but are unable to navigate beyond that. Please could anyone advise me regarding these issues?
