Hello I've been noticing lately that when surfing iexplorer.exe is using upwards of 200mb of ram (Task Manager) and the system is almost at standstill until I closedown windows.. Don't think it's malware or such

Re: IE6 memory usage

Hello again,

That is not the only solution it is just a test.

Plus there is a quick fix in ie7 that usually fixes this type of problem but the fix doesnt work in ie6

please also do this
  • Click Here to download ToolbarCop. Save it to your desktop.
  • Go to your desktop and extract toolbarcop.zip.
  • Go to the extracted files
  • Double click on Toolbarcop.exe
  • Click on the notepad symbol:
  • A notepad file should pop up, please copy and paste Everything from the notepad file and paste it back into this thread.

Re: IE6 memory usage

Nifty little tool; however, it doesn't seem to do much that HijackThis.exe doesn't already do. Nothing unusual appeared there, for me. I notice a similar issue on my laptop - IE 6 can use obscene amounts of memory after surfing for awhile. I got upwards of 350mb the other day, and a total pagefile of over 1gb. Really obscene %) Right now, just surfing these forums for awhile, iexplore.exe is using over 190mb.

It's not THAT debilitating, a simple restart of IE6 will always clear the used memory down by quite a bit (much more pagefile size disappears than the amount of memory being used by the iexplore.exe process). It's just annoying. Coupled with this, tho, is the multiple instances of IE that never fully load problem, mentioned in another thread. Dubhead should check what processes are going in the task manager, and the amounts of mem & CPU time used there.
