uninstalling IE 6.0

I'm on a dying Compaq running XP home edition, (service pack 2) 2002

I cannot seem to eradicate IE from this computer. I started with version 7.0, but after uninstalling that, I just got stuck with 6.0.
How does one get an "IE free" computer!?!

Re: uninstalling IE 6.0

G'Day Drzhang, Welcome to TSF!

IE6 is an integral part of Windows® XP, without it you would not have Internet access.
However, you can install FireFox™ and run it instead of IE, by going into "Set Program access and Defaults" and make FF your default, but allow access to IE.

Hope this answers your query.

Kind Regards,

Re: uninstalling IE 6.0

Howdy chauffeur2.

Really? So no matter what I have to keep IE on this computer?
I'm currently running Firefox; can't I get Internet access with FF alone?

If "no" is the answer, might you know how I can delete the "IE Wallpaper" inside the desktop tab of -Display Properties-?
I added it mistakenly and can't undo it!

Thanks for the help!

Re: uninstalling IE 6.0

Yes, you have to keep IE. As stated, much of it is integrated into Windows. And occasionally, some websites simply will not display correctly in other browsers, so you might have to use it once in awhile. But you can use other browsers like Firefox (my recommendation too). Just set it as your default browser. That will stop IE from opening when you access the Internet. Firefox will open instead.

Re: uninstalling IE 6.0

Thanks, I'll check that out. It's a background photo for the desktop (which I'm trying to delete) if that makes it any clearer.
