[SOLVED] IE8: Zoom
In my new big monitor everything looks huge in IE8. If I set the Zoom to about 80%, everything looks equal in size as in Firefox.
Problem is, when IE gets restarted Zoom goes back to its default setting of 100%. Is there a way to change the default value? I noticed the registry has references to it, but I have no idea what to enter to make the change: |

Re: IE8: Zoom
Thanks again for your reply and for the welcome.
Unfortunately, on the Advanced tab under Settings, the entire field is blank; nothing at all is listed. Can this be fixed? Last edited by JeremyT : 05-06-2008 at 11:36 AM. |

Re: IE8: Zoom
I again reset IE from the Advanced tab, and this time all the entries in the settings field are displaying. However, when I unticked the two text and zoom settings (and I set zoom to 80%), new tabs and also new pages still display with a 100% zoom.

Re: IE8: Zoom
Thanks
![]() This is the key I've been trying to set to 80%: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Zoom] "ResetTextSizeOnStartup"=dword:00000000 "ResetTextSizeOnZoom"=dword:00000001 "ResetZoomOnStartup"=dword:00000000 "ZoomFactor"=dword:000186a0 Last edited by JeremyT : 05-07-2008 at 12:34 PM. |

Re: IE8: Zoom
No problems
Ok we have two options both work. If you are fine with editing the registry, please do this: If not say so and I will make the fixes and send them too you. Go here: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Zoom] If you want to stop changing back to defualt do this: Find ResetZoomOnStartup and chnage the value to 0 if you want to chnage the defualt: find ZoomFactor and set it to 80000 |

Re: IE8: Zoom
Thanks, but it doesn't work. When I restart IE8 the zoom factor goes right back to 100% in the settings, and also to 100000 in the registry/ZoomFactor setting.
Did it work for you in IE8 on Vista? Last edited by JeremyT : 05-09-2008 at 03:25 AM. |

Re: IE8: Zoom
i dont have access to a Vista machine to test it on, I figured the settings would be the same.
did you try the ResetZoomOnStartup settings? Do you have some registry guards in place to stop editing in the registry? I wont be able to get to your other thread tonight as I need more time to like into it.\ Was IE shut when you did the reg edit? Last edited by Go The Power : 05-09-2008 at 05:37 AM. |

Re: IE8: Zoom
Yes, with IE8 shut I've set all the zoom reg key values to 0, and the zoom factor to 80000. But as soon as IE8 is restarted the zoom factor always goes back to 100000 in the reg key, and 100% in the browser's settings display.
I have no registry guards installed; just Eset Smart security (Antivirus/firewall), which I've disabled when attempting to make changes. It's as if these settings were welded into place! ![]() Thanks for your help. ![]() |

Re: IE8: Zoom
I guess it can be removed, but removing version 8 to go back to 7 is kind of like going from the frying pan into the fire.
Although, version 7 was ok on XP for me. I should probably go back to XP. It seems the real culprit is Vista! |

Re: IE8: Zoom
I got rid of IE8 by going back to an earlier image of my system which has IE7. I used the reg fix you posted, and now I can log into the secure sites I had problems with while using IE8. There's also no more broblem with the zoom feature as it's set to a normal view, rather than the over-size of IE8; which is not 100% as they say; IE8's so-called 100% is more like 110-120%!
Thanks very much for your help. ![]() Last edited by JeremyT : 05-12-2008 at 05:21 PM. |

Re: IE8: Zoom
One very important thing I forgot to mention:
All my problems with Internet Explorer and Vista in general started after I installed SP1, and other previous so-called updates. Since my present system is PRE SP1 and it's otherwise working perfectly, I turned off all Windows updates so I can keep the system as it is, trouble free! |
