Choose a digital certificate popup

Hi all,

I am having a problem when I am in our web site where I select a link which opens a Microsoft Excel file in a new browser within the plugin. The problem is when I exit that browser window which has MS xls in it, I get the popup which says "The web site you want to view request identification. Please choose a certificate." There is nothing to choose from and all I have is "Ok, Cancel". In order to get rid of this popup I have to select "Ok, Cancel" about thirteen times.
The message appears when I try to save as.
The process starts all over again. Also I think this has to do with a browser or plugin because there are a couple of guys that don't have this problem. We just can't pinpoint what needs to be changed or what to look for.

Thanks,
Greg

Re: Choose a digital certificate popup

Thanks,

But the bellow DLL wasn't present on Vista:

initpki.dll
gpkcsp.dll
sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll

After download them I can't register them an error appears.

I for one am having problems logging in to that page ..

can you be more specific in what you did to cure the problem

cut and paste text from your page into a post, you can insert links to images by using square brackets wrapping img and /img at the start and finish. (like this but extra spaces inserted to confuse the forum software)
[ i m g ] url of picture to be shown [ / i m g ]

I will be removing your link .. as a precaution ..

Thanks

Re: Choose a digital certificate popup

Briefly, we configured our web server to respond correctly (i.e. with HTTP response code 200 and a list of supported HTTP verbs) to all OPTIONS requests. Excel seems to make a bunch of these requests when you open a .xls document from your browser, and gets confused if you don't reply as it expects.

The technical details are at When Tomcat, HTTPS, and Excel collide, and there's no point replicating them here. No idea why Done_Fishin thought he had to "log in"; you don't have to log in to view this simple HTML page. We are not spammers or advertisers; we just have a solution to this problem we are trying to share.

Re: Choose a digital certificate popup

sorry didn't mean logging in .. what I meant was "that the page refused to open for me" .. and didn't explain myself properly .. I tried it several times without success

today though it is working fine ..

Thanks for reposting .. sorry about yesterday but with site & link hijacking etc I err on safety ..

But do you know if it is possible to made a modification on the workstation?

Because the problem appears on 2 workstation but no on 3 others.

All the workstation have the same config. Vista and Office 2003.

Re: Choose a digital certificate popup

Sorry Greg, no idea what causes Excel to make its bizarre OPTIONS requests. It seems to have something to do with a feature called WebDAV so if you can find a way to turn that off in Windows or Excel it might help.

Re: Choose a digital certificate popup

The problem is most likely exactly what was discussed in the article above regarding the OPTIONS verb. I have figured out a workaround in IIS:

In IIS, the problem lies with UrlScan. You can explicity allow or deny verbs & headers within urlscan.ini

1) Remove or comment out the "OPTIONS" verb in [DenyVerbs] and add it to [AllowVerbs].
2) Remove or comment out the "Translate:" header in [DenyHeaders]
3) Restart IIS.

I hope this helps!

Justin
