[SOLVED] IE7 causes delay in opening OE6 email

Ever since installing IE7 there is a 6 second delay in opening the first email in OE6. After the first email is opened all other emails open immediately.

This happens each time I initially open OE6 and attempt to open the first email.

I have disable my antivirus (NOD32), firewall (Commodo), antispyware (CounterSpy), all other running processes I could before Windows would crash and still get the 6 second delay.

I know IE7 is the cause for I uninstalled IE7 which put my system back to IE6 and the delay went away. All emails including the first opened immediately.

Just to be sure, I reinstalled IE7 and the delay returned. I even disabled all add-ons in IE7 to see if maybe one was the cause, but the delay continued. All security options in IE7 were set to default.

Any ideas on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Re: IE7 causes delay in opening OE6 email

No problems.

Please do this:

System File checker: sfc/ scanow

**Note: You will need A Windows XP CD for this exercise**
  • Please insert the Windows XP CD into your CD/DVD drive.
  • Click Start, then Run
  • Copy and paste the command below into the text box (with out the quotation marks)
    sfc /scannow
  • Click Ok
  • During the scan you may be asked to Insert the A Windows XP CD, if this happens just click retry and let it do its thing.

Please post back with the results.

Re: IE7 causes delay in opening OE6 email

Ran sfc /scannow but to no avail. Still have the delay. The delay opening the first email is more of an annoyance than a problem, but I like running a tight ship and there has to be an explanation for the delay.

I could uninstall IE7 again and go back to IE6 but I like the enhanced security features of IE7. Eventually MS is going to drop support for IE6.

After I initially uninstalled IE7, I thought the delay could have been the result of a bad download, so I downloaded again, installed, same delay.

Sure appreciate your ideas. Look forward to more suggestions. Eventually this cause for the delay is going to come to light.

Re: IE7 causes delay in opening OE6 email

One thing I noticed in Process Explorer, when I open the first email msimn.exe cpu usage jumps to 99% and stays there till the email opens.

Re: IE7 causes delay in opening OE6 email

One more thing, when I boot into safe mode with networking, opening the first email only takes 3 seconds. At least the time is cut in half.

Worked with computers while in the USAF during the Nam war. You know, when computers were the size of a house. Used IBM punch cards for input. Too high or too low a temperature, too high or too low humidity would cause them to crash. Heck, back then if you passed gas in the same area the computer was in it would crash!

You can see how easily I can be confused by today's technology!

Anyway, thanks for your help. You are greatly appreciated
