IE7 problem - no internet connection

Running Windows XP and IE7 with no problems for some time.
Now IE7 won't open any webpage - says that there is no internet connection but there is because I can still connect to my mailbox in Outlook and my daughter can still use MSN Messenger.

I have checked Internet connection using router's diagnostics and everything is fine.

My other PC also running IE7 and connecting through the same router has no problems connecting (although it does keep closing saying that an error has occurred and Explorer has to shut down)

Re: IE7 problem - no internet connection

Tried reset but it didn't make any difference.

Somebody suggested it might be something to do with an update that I downloaded - the update was KB942615.

I followed some instructions on Microsoft's own site and uninstalled this update but again it didn't make any difference

It seems that lots of people are having the same problem

Re: IE7 problem - no internet connection

Probably a stupid question but how do I download them when I can't get access to the Internet?

Re: IE7 problem - no internet connection

Can you download them on another computer and transfer them over?

can you use IE by doing this:

Click Start, All programs, Accessories, System tools and click on Internet Explore (No Addons)

Re: IE7 problem - no internet connection

I installed Firefox and the Internet is now working perfectly so I guess it was a problem with IE7 and/or the update

I'm fed up with Microsoft and their updates - they seem to cause more problems than they cure.

I'm happy to carry on with Firefox if you think IE7 was the only reason we couldn't access Internet - is there anything else I should be checking though?

Many thanks
