some websites problem in IE

Hi,

www.orkut.com and recently, www.mail.yahoo.com have stopped working on both my browsers- firefox and IE "the webpage cannot be found".

www.yahoo.com doesn't work on firefox but works on IE so i get into yahoo.com on IE and then access mail through the link but the direct link wont work.

y affecting only certain websites? could windows updates be a factor?

I have CA security center and tech support didn't find anything wrong wit that program. i recently uninstalled Norton security scanner (which was a free download) but nothing has changed.

look forward to a response. Thankz

thankz 4 ur speedy reply. i used the norton removal tool and nothing has changed. I didn't mention b4 that i had also removed spybot S&D a few days ago as well. i was getting a popup that had options to allow or deny website etc. anyway, here follows the contents of the notepad file:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 bin.errorprotector.com ## added by CiD
127.0.0.1 br.errorsafe.com ## added by CiD
127.0.0.1 br.winantivirus.com ## added by CiD

MODS NOTE: Edited out HOST file to make post smaller.

thankz once again.

Re: some websites problem in IE

You have a few infections onboard. You should get them cleaned up first, after they have been cleaned if you still have the same problems, come back here and we will get the problem fixed.

I would recommend that you go here; read and follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, to here. (Just click on the coloured links.)

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

Good luck

Please also remember DO NOT post your logs in this thread, please start a new thread here. (Just click on the coloured link.) and post the logs.

Re: some websites problem in IE

also, today i have done scans with Ad-Aware and SuperAntiSpyware. u might want to see the results which can be viewed by the links in my last post here: increase computer speed

I will monitor the progress of things on my PC over the next day or two and let u know if there has been any improvements. I followed the 5 steps to malware removal and of course the Panda Active Scan does not fix anything. Is there any further advice that u have after seeeing the scans?
thankz once again.....from Melbourne.

Re: some websites problem in IE

Hello again

its good to see another Aussie on here

Panda online scan is step 2 out of 5. The most important one that you need to do is step 5:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...sting-log.html

Do the scan for Deckards System Scanner (DSS) and post the logs back into your thread in the Hijackthis section.

Also do fix your problem with not being able to view those pages do this:

click Start => Run an copy and paste this command into the run box:

notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

press OK.

Then go right to the bottom
and delete the bottom three lines.

it should read

127.0.0.1 www.orkut.com
127.0.0.1 www.mail.yahoo.com
.......

Delete those three entries, then click File => save, restart your computer you should now have access to those websites.
